Norway sees record number of patient complaints about medical malpractice
While many in Norway share their healthcare frustrations with friends and family, a growing number are now taking formal action. After a record year for compensation claims in 2025, here’s why so many applications were rejected.
25 people have so far been granted compensation for patient injuries after being subjected to abuse by former Frosta doctor Arne Bye.
Three out of four patients who applied to the Norwegian Patient Injury Compensation Fund (NPE) for compensation last year were rejected. NPE received over 8,000 applications last year.
2025 was a record year for complaints about malpractice. In Agder, there were 380 compensation cases. The vast majority were rejected.
– These are extremely serious matters. No one should be exposed to such things when they are at their doctor's.
