'Stranger Things: First Shadow' Winding Down Broadway, West End Runs
Netflix says the production sold nearly 1.6 million tickets and won four Tony Awards before ending its long stage runs.
On Tuesday, producers announced that Stranger Things: The First Shadow will close at London's Phoenix Theatre on December 27, 2026, and at Broadway's Marquis Theatre on January 3, 2027.
Written by Kate Trefry and directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin, the prequel has sold nearly 1.6 million tickets across over 1,500 performances since opening in London in December 2023.
Recent box office data shows the Broadway production grossed $859,339 last week, with attendance at 74% of capacity, down from winter's routine $1 million-plus figures.
Critical recognition included four 2025 Tony Awards, with wins for scenic, lighting, and sound design, alongside a special honor for technical effects.
Although the $20 million production has not confirmed if it recouped costs, Netflix executives described the show as an "unprecedented collaboration between television and theater.
