Netflix’s CHARLIE VS. THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY Adds BIG Names... And Major Theatrical Release
Netflix will give the Roald Dahl adaptation a 47-day theatrical window before streaming, while adding original songs, new characters and merchandise tie-ins.
- On Wednesday, Netflix announced that Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory will open wide globally in theaters on Nov. 5, 2027, before arriving on the streaming platform on Dec. 22, 2027.
- Directed by Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan, the film stars Taika Waititi as Willy Wonka and Kit Connor as Charlie Paley, following Wonka's return to his factory after prison as local kids plot to steal a Wonka Bar.
- Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle international distribution for the project, which receives a 48-day exclusive theatrical window and continues the universe established by Roald Dahl's 1964 novel.
- Beyond the screen, Netflix is launching a consumer-products campaign with Ferrero Group and Moose Toys, while the voice cast includes Kate Winslet, Helena Bonham Carter, Nicola Coughlan, and Charithra Chandran.
- This release strategy aligns with recent moves including Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew in 2027, as the streamer increasingly grants exclusive theatrical windows to major animated titles.
