Officials say the new system will restore real-time alerts after the flood knocked out at least four gauging stations near the border.

- According to NDRRMA CEO Dharma RajUpreti, real-time river discharge data will enable authorities to "disseminate SMS messages if any new floods are detected." China has also shared satellite imagery and hydrological data with Nepal.
- The frontier with Tibet remains unstable and closely watched by Kathmandu, Beijing and New Delhi. Any landslide-triggered event now grants only a few minutes to alert downstream communities, making real-time monitoring systems critical for survival.
