Nelly Korda and 'Legally Blonde' team 3 shots back of Dow Championship on LPGA
The alternate-shot format kept the field tightly packed as nine teams finished one shot back and Korda’s team settled three behind the lead.
European duo Nicole Broch Estrup and Gemma Dryburgh took the lead Thursday at the Dow Championship LPGA tournament in Midland, Mich., posting a three-under 67 in the opening round at Midland Country Club.
Nicole Broch Estrup of Denmark and Gemma Dryburgh of Scotland survived the tough foursomes format to reach the top of the leaderboard, as rookies Camille Boyd and Michelle Zhang, along with Hira Naveed and Gurleen Kaur, also surged to the front.
Playing as "Legally Blonde," Nelly Korda and Olivia Cowan finished three shots off the lead during their opening round on Thursday at the tournament.
Nine teams sit a shot back at 68, while Hall of Famer Juli Inkster and teammate Angel Yin finished with a 69 in Inkster's first tournament appearance this year.
The alternate-shot format kept the field tightly bunched at Midland Country Club, with most teams remaining close heading into the second round of fourballs on the next day.
