Nearly 100 never-before-seen Nintendo cartridges found in Wisconsin game shop

The find includes five PSA 10 cartridges, and Goldin Auctions will sell one starting Aug. 12 as collectors learn the run was previously unknown.

  • Kevin Braun of OneStopWonders in Waukesha, Wisconsin discovered 97 near-mint Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cartridges from a previously unknown 1993 production run, identified with help from Jason Ganos of Nintendo Wire.
  • Braun purchased the cartridges years ago from a seller's grandson, unaware they originated from a precious metal recovery service where Nintendo likely sent them for destruction; they survived in storage for decades.
  • PSA graded the collection, awarding five cartridges a perfect score of 10. Nintendo Wire reports this marks the first time an NES game has ever received such a designation.
  • Starting Wednesday, August 12, Goldin Auctions will list several cartridges including a PSA 10 specimen, while Braun originally planned to sell the games for roughly $15 each.
  • This discovery introduces a new variant to the documented history of the console's most beloved pack-in game. Ganos noted the cartridges represent "the very last production run," positioning them as a critical test of market value for pristine, late-lifecycle units.
