NDLEA Arrests Newlywed With 72 Wraps Of Cocaine At Enugu Airport
The suspect said he used drug trafficking to cover wedding expenses after returning to Nigeria from Portugal, NDLEA said.
- On Thursday, September 25, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency operatives arrested Lovely Chukwulobelu at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Portugal after ingesting 72 wraps of cocaine.
- Chukwulobelu had returned to Nigeria for his wedding on September 13, 2026, and told investigators he resorted to drug trafficking to offset expenses incurred during the ceremony.
- Following his arrest, the NDLEA placed the suspect under observation at the facility, where he subsequently excreted all 72 wraps of the illicit drug.
- Separately, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi announced that officers seized 1,640.55kg of opioids on Tuesday, September 22, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, with consignments arriving from India and Bangladesh.
- NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa commended nationwide operations, including cannabis farm destructions in Edo and arrests in Oyo and Bauchi, as the agency continues its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation activities.
