Former Pike Star Ryan Conwell Selected 37th in NBA Draft, Headed to Heat
The former Pike High standout was traded for the 41st pick and cash considerations after Oklahoma City drafted him 37th overall.
On Wednesday, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected Louisville guard Ryan Conwell with the 37th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, immediately trading him to the Miami Heat for the 41st selection.
Miami, operating under financial restrictions following the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, sought backcourt depth; ESPN analyst Bobby Marks called the acquisition a "smart move" given the team's limited roster flexibility.
Conwell, a 6-foot-2 guard, averaged 18.8 points per game last season; ESPN draft insider Jeremy Woo praised his "physicality, shooting and toughness," noting he defends enough to find an NBA home long term.
In exchange for Conwell, the Thunder selected Kentucky guard Otega Oweh, who offers "high-end defense in the pick-and-roll" and held opponents to 27% shooting in isolation during his time with the Wildcats.
The Heat will round out their roster with undrafted prospects next month, with assistant coach Wayne Ellington guiding the team through summer league competitions in San Francisco and Las Vegas.
