Naz Reid opens up on trade to Hornets, next chapter after Minnesota
Reid said the move came as he was headed to the Bahamas and will make him a leader in Charlotte’s roster rebuild.
The Hornets acquired Reid from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a trade involving LaMelo Ball and Josh Green, ending the 27-year-old's eight-year tenure in the Midwest.
Despite receiving a 48-hour advance tip from his agent, Reid was traveling to the Bahamas when learning of the trade, describing the initial phone call as "a little shocking."
Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson identified Reid as the centerpiece of the team's offseason roster reconstruction, alongside re-signed guard Coby White.
Coach Charles Lee established a Hornets culture emphasizing togetherness, which Reid quickly embraced, noting "continuity is big" for building team chemistry through shared activities.
After eight years with the Timberwolves and winning the Sixth Man of the Year award, Reid enters the 2026-27 campaign as Charlotte's new centerpiece.
