- He underwent the nearly four-hour surgery on June 22 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, as concerns about his health grew during the 2024 elections.
- Thousands of supporters and party members warmly welcomed Patnaik along the route from Biju Patnaik International Airport to his residence, Naveen Niwas.
- BJD vice-president Debiprasad Mishra called him the state's most popular leader, while BJD sources said his return counters the BJP's campaign on his health.
