Native Forward Announces New Board Members

Native Forward Scholars Fund announced two new Board members and appointed four existing members to leadership roles on May 19, 2025, in Albuquerque, N.M.
The appointments follow Native Forward's mission to increase Native students' access to higher education through scholarships and support across more than 500 Tribes and all 50 states.
Lillian Sparks Robinson of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe was appointed Chair, with Franklin "Hud" Oberly, Jr., who is affiliated with the Comanche, Osage, and Caddo Nations, serving as Vice Chair. Cecilia Gutierrez continues her role as Treasurer, while Amber Garrison from the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma remains Secretary.
Angelique Albert, CEO of Native Forward and a member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, expressed great enthusiasm in introducing Rohit, Katherine, and Ben as the newest additions to the organization’s Board of Directors, highlighting their extensive nonprofit backgrounds and strong dedication to Native-led initiatives.
The leadership changes aim to advance Native Forward’s goal of growing Native scholars’ graduation rate to 69%, well above the 41% national average for Native students.
