UNITED STATES, JUL 17 – The Senate vote could eliminate $1.1 billion in funding vital to over 1,500 public radio and TV stations serving rural and tribal communities, threatening their survival.
- Congressional leaders plan a procedural vote this week on rescinding $1.1 billion in CPB funding, affecting the next two years.
- On May 1, President Donald Trump issued an executive order calling for CPB to cease federal funding, which accounts for roughly half of its budget, risking programming and emergency alerts.
- The tribal media advocate highlighted that Native Public Media supports 59 radio and three television stations serving tribal nations, with about three dozen stations at risk of going dark if funding is cut when the Oct. 1 fiscal year starts.
