TEAMSTERS WIN NATIONWIDE SANITATION STRIKE AGAINST REPUBLIC SERVICES

Republic Services garbage collectors in Cumming reached an agreement Wednesday that ended the Teamsters' last contract dispute nationwide, said Victor Mineros.
Thirty-Three unionized Republic Services workers walked off in Cumming at 2 a.m. on July 8 over stalled contract talks about pay, unsafe conditions and unfair labor practices, forcing more than 500 Teamsters off the job in early July.
Teamsters General President Sean M. O'Brien said workers won raises up to 46% and stronger protections, including health benefits that will save hundreds monthly.
Union leaders responded with praise, with Sean M. O'Brien stating `Republic's greed and arrogance were no match for Teamsters' strength and solidarity,' and declaring the four-year agreement benefits employees, customers, and the company.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.3 million people, and Sen. Raphael Warnock added pressure earlier in October as over 2,000 sanitation workers struck nationwide.
