Canadian Red Cross Distributes Free N95 Masks in B.C.'s Interior Health Region
The masks are meant to reduce exposure to wildfire smoke as much of B.C.'s Southern Interior remains under an air-quality warning.
- On behalf of the federal government, the Canadian Red Cross is distributing free N95 masks to communities in British Columbia's Interior Health region to protect residents from wildfire smoke.
- Currently, more than 120 fires are burning across the province with 39 per cent classified as out of control, creating widespread smoke that poses serious health risks to vulnerable populations.
- Residents can access free masks at various sites including the Kamloops North Shore BIA and the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus while supplies last at these designated locations.
- Although some evacuation orders near Summerland have been downgraded, councillor Erin Trainer says the town remains blanketed in smoke and is still "very much active" with fire danger.
- The BC Wildfire Service reports air quality is currently "moderate," though residents experiencing severe symptoms like shortness of breath should contact HealthLink BC at 811 for guidance.
