- Last week, filings under the Foreign Agents Registration Act revealed Stone was commissioned through the DCI Group to provide "public affairs services" to Myanmar's information ministry.
- Campaign group Justice For Myanmar said the work was registered "after the junta's last rebrand," adding Stone profits from US-sanctioned enterprises tied to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
- Stone is a long-time conservative activist who served as a Trump campaign consultant; in 2020, he was sentenced to 40 months in prison for hindering a congressional probe into whether Trump's first electoral bid conspired with Russia.
- The military-backed government uses the appearance of political reform to rehabilitate its image after restricted elections, though critics describe the administration as a "civilian fig leaf" for military rule under coup leader Min Aung Hlaing.
