BNDN Signs Agreement for Uranium Project to Proceed
The agreement gives Birch Narrows Dene Nation support and consent across development, production and decommissioning, Paladin said.
- On Monday, Paladin Canada Inc. and the Birch Narrows Dene Nation signed a Mutual Benefits Agreement covering the Patterson Lake South Project in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin.
- The agreement follows a binding term sheet signed in April 2026 and marks the third MBA for the project, after deals with the Buffalo River Dene Nation and the Clearwater River Dene Nation in February 2025.
- BNDN Chief Jonathon Sylvestre said the agreement reflects the nation's commitment to exercising rights while ensuring strong environmental protection. Paladin CEO Paul Hemburrow stated, "We are pleased to reach this important agreement with the BNDN and our goal is to be a good neighbour."
- The MBA covers the project's entire lifespan from development through decommissioning and reclamation. It signals to provincial and federal regulators that BNDN supports the project as it advances through permitting and licensing phases.
- Paladin Energy maintains 75% ownership of the Langer Heinrich Mine in Namibia while advancing the Patterson Lake South project to support future global nuclear energy expansion and baseload energy provision.
