Murder charge laid after woman's body found at home
- On Saturday night, 25-year-old Blaise McIntyre was arrested at a Windale home after police discovered a 47-year-old woman's body on Merrigum Street. McIntyre was charged with domestic violence-related murder.
- Emergency services responded to a concern for welfare shortly after 8pm Saturday on Merrigum Street. Lake Macquarie Superintendent Tracy Chapman said police allege McIntyre placed the Triple Zero call before officers arrived to find the woman with multiple injuries.
- Police seized a kitchen knife for forensic testing after McIntyre allegedly made "some comments" to officers. Superintendent Chapman noted there were "no reports available" of previous domestic violence incidents between the pair.
- McIntyre appeared briefly in bail court on Sunday, where he was formally refused bail and remains in custody. He is scheduled to face Newcastle Local Court on June 17.
- Separately, the state's Homicide Squad is investigating an unrelated stabbing death in Argenton. Police report a group of masked intruders forced entry early Sunday morning, killing a man before fleeing.
