Murder Charge After Head Teacher Knocked Off Bike and Killed

Simon Richardson, 34, was charged with murder and manslaughter on Friday following the death of Stretford Grammar School headteacher Michael Mullins and is scheduled to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today.
Mullins was cycling home on Paddock Lane in Altrincham when a vehicle struck him at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Monday, April 20, causing his death at the scene.
Stretford Grammar deputy headteacher Liz Bater confirmed the "sad and devastating news" in a letter to parents, while Mullins' family described their "loving Dad" devoted to family who "excelled" as a grandad.
Greater Manchester Police continue to appeal for witnesses or video footage, quoting log 2771, as three other individuals arrested in connection with the incident have been granted bail pending further enquiries.
Trafford Council leader Cllr Tom Ross stated the community is "deeply saddened" by the loss, and the school is working with the Council to provide support honoring Mullins' 17-year legacy as headteacher.
