French presidential hopeful Philippe faces crucial test in mayoral elections
Edouard Philippe has made his 2027 presidential election candidacy conditional on his re-election in Le Havre. His young party, Horizons, which touts its local roots, is facing several keys races too.
The former Prime Minister, who founded his party by boasting his local elected pool, and linked his presidential candidacy to his re-election in his Norman fief, submitted his troops to their first municipal elections.
For the party, which does not rely on the conquest of many communes, the stakes of the election on Sunday 15 March lie mainly in the Norman city, where Edouard Philippe plays his political future and his presidential destiny.
