Without the approval of the population, however, the city does not want to lift the billion-dollar project. Therefore, there should be a citizens' decision.
After a detailed discussion, the Munich City Council voted in favour of an application for the 2026, 2040 or 2044 Olympic Games. During the vote by hand, the present council members voted in favour of the concept developed by the administration, which had already been presented last week.
The Olympic and Paralympic Games inspire people all over the world. Munich, too, wants to benefit from this spirit—and the money that goes into it. Now a decision has been made.
The City Council has agreed that Munich will apply for Olympic Games. The last word will be given to the citizens who will vote in October.

Munich's mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD), Prime Minister Markus Söder and Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (both CSU) presented the application at the Olympic Stadium.
