2 Dead, 7 Hurt After Early-Morning Shooting in Asheville
Police said investigators are examining whether the shooting is linked to an earlier gun violence incident after 2 people were killed and 7 were injured.
On Sunday, July 19, 2026, two people were killed and seven others injured in a shooting at the 250 block of Biltmore Avenue in Asheville, as police responded to reports of gunfire at 2:20 a.m.
Interim Police Chief Jackie Stepp stated the incident followed patrons leaving Dalton Distillery, and investigators believe the shooting was not random, potentially stemming from 'a prior gun violence incident.'
Detectives and forensic technicians processed 'a large crime scene,' collecting numerous shell casings, while seven victims were transported to Mission Hospital for treatment.
Suspects remain unaccounted for as the investigation continues; according to Stepp, five of the seven hospitalized victims are in stable condition and two require additional medical care.
APD is working 'around the clock' to identify those responsible, and authorities encourage anyone with information to contact 252-1110 or submit anonymous tips via the TIP2APD app.
