Bradley Creek Wildfire Jumps to 2,600 Hectares, Hundreds Evacuated
The fire jumped Highway 97 and crews stayed overnight to protect structures as four evacuation orders and five alerts remain in effect.
On Sunday, August 2, 2026, the Bradley Creek wildfire reached an estimated 2,603 hectares near the north end of Okanagan Lake, with evacuation orders remaining in effect across the region.
First discovered Friday night near the Blacktown area, the wildfire grew from 10 hectares Saturday morning to 1,000 hectares by afternoon, with the BC Wildfire Service attributing the rapid spread to dry, grassy fuels.
Intense winds pushed the fire east across Highway 97 Saturday night, forcing closure of the route between the Highway 97A junction and Salmon River Road, while firefighters remained on-site overnight conducting structure protection operations.
The Okanagan Indian Band ordered evacuation of the Indian Reserve Saturday evening, and evacuees requiring support can contact the BC Evacuee Helpline or visit the Reception Centre at Kal Tire Place in Vernon.
Authorities maintain four evacuation orders and five alerts affecting properties along Six Mile Creek Road and Siwash Creek Road, while the Township of Spallumcheen implemented Stage 3 water restrictions to preserve firefighting resources.
