- John Chiarello, President of TWU Local 100, described McCullum, a mother of three who had been on the job for 11 months, as being "at the start of a new career." The union was "heartbroken by the tragic death of our member."
- Following the death, the National Transportation Safety Board said Friday it is "launching a go team" to investigate. The MTA removed all construction flaggers from tracks for 24 hours for safety retraining.
- McCullum's death marks the first track worker fatality since 2023, following an "escalating pattern" of safety failures cited by the Federal Transit Administration, which reported a 58% surge in "near-miss events" since 2022.
