Portugal has a Community transmission of the Ib subvariant of the mpox and has recorded 66 cases in the last six weeks, the highest value outside Africa, according to WHO. This year 282 cases have been confirmed, but DGS ensures that infections are decreasing.
The authorities are monitoring the increase in cases associated with this virus in Portugal, although they have decreased in recent weeks.
The confirmed infections refer, mostly and according to the DGS, to men (97.9%), with an average age of 35 years. The region and Lisbon and Vale do Tejo concentrate the majority, representing 66.7% of the total.
Portugal has recorded an increase in the transmission of the pox virus since 2025, with 282 confirmed cases this year, but the number of infections has decreased in recent weeks, the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) announced today.
Spain leads the list of European countries with the highest number of cases, followed by France, with Portugal taking the third position.
