M.P. High Court Bench to Visit Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque Site Before April 2 Hearing
The court will assess the disputed Bhojshala-Kamal Maula site alone before hearing objections on the Archaeological Survey of India's 98-day report on April 2.
- On Monday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court Division Bench announced it would visit the disputed Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque complex in Dhar before the April 2 hearing. Justices Vijay Kumar Shukla and Alok Awasthi will inspect the site to understand its layout amid the ongoing dispute.
- The Bhojshala-Kamal Maula site has long been contested by Hindu and Muslim groups asserting competing religious rights over the medieval structure. The High Court ordered an Archaeological Survey of India study last year to examine the site's historical features as part of ongoing proceedings.
- A nearly 2,200-page ASI report suggests the current structure was built over ruins of 10th-11th century Paramara-period temples; the 98-day survey examined historical features, though Muslim representatives alleged the agency ignored their earlier objections.
- Justice Shukla clarified the inspection aims to understand the site's layout, stating, "But only the court will visit, and parties are not allowed." Neither the petitioner nor respondent will accompany the Bench during the visit.
- All parties must submit final suggestions and objections regarding the survey findings before the April 2 hearing, when the court will examine these submissions along with several intervening applications related to the ongoing dispute.
