Scarlett Johansson plays an NYPD detective chasing ritualistic killings tied to a satanic serial killer and an ancient evil, Flanagan said.
- On Friday, writer-director Mike Flanagan unveiled the first trailer for 'The Exorcist: Martyrs' at New York City Comic Con, announcing a March 12, 2027 theatrical release starring Scarlett Johansson as a homicide detective.
- Universal, having purchased franchise rights for $400 million in 2021, turned to Flanagan after 'The Exorcist: Believer' earned $137 million globally in 2023 amid poor reviews, requiring a fresh creative direction.

- Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment produced the film in association with Flanagan's Red Room Pictures, with Chiwetel Ejiofor joining the ensemble cast supporting the new vision.
