Mountain Lion Kills Two Pet Dogs in Yucaipa Backyard, Family Says
California wildlife officials are investigating after a mountain lion killed two family dogs and dragged one over a fence in a backyard attack.
- On Saturday, a mountain lion killed two pet dogs, Summer and Winter, in a Yucaipa backyard enclosure while Roger Schultz and his wife were out of town.
- Security video captured the mountain lion dragging the 65-pound Anatolian Shepherd, Summer, over a five-foot fence; Schultz later used a collar tracker to locate the predator's lair about 150 yards behind the property.
- CDFW officials are investigating the incident and recommend: "Some steps residents can take are supervising pets when outdoors, especially at night, and providing a secure enclosure for pets that are outside."
- Schultz expressed concern for neighborhood children, stating: "There's small kids that we see walking with their parents," and warned that "kids will run out 50, 100 feet ahead of them on the walks."
