Most popular baby names revealed as Olivia tops girls list for tenth year in a row
The top 10 names accounted for 9.1% of births, and Muhammad led the boys list as new names entered the top 100.
In England and Wales, Olivia retained the top spot for girls for the tenth year in 2025, with 2,386 births, while Muhammad emerged as the most popular boy's name with 5,957, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Official data shows there were 585,396 live births across England and Wales in 2025, comprising 284,681 female and 300,715 male infants, with these top names accounting for 1.4% of all birth names.
Among girls' names, Ada saw the largest popularity increase, rising 54 places, followed by Maeve and Charlotte, which each climbed 24 spots, while Jessica and Ellie dropped from the rankings.
New additions to the list included Eliana, Gracie, and Anaya for girls, alongside Vincent, Carter, and Stanley for boys; rankings are produced from the exact spelling given at birth registration.
Regional data indicates Olivia was the favorite in Wales and Muhammad led in four of nine English regions, while Lily overtook Amelia for second place among girls.
