Moshi building collapse: Three more rescued, total survivors now 14
Officials said 9 people have been rescued and multi-agency teams are still searching for others trapped in the debris.
On Thursday, rescue teams pulled two more people from a collapsed building in Moshi, bringing the total survivors to nine. The three-storey waste-to-energy plant structure collapsed Wednesday afternoon after a garbage mound slid onto it.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi stated that heavy rains likely caused the adjacent mountain-like waste pile to loosen, triggering the mound to collapse onto the facility like a landslide.
Employees of Antony Lara Renewable Energy, which operates the facility in collaboration with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, were among those trapped. The civic body reported 23 people were initially believed trapped, with five escaping safely.
A multi-agency operation involving the National Disaster Response Force , the Indian Army, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority fire brigade continues. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ganesh Ingale confirmed responders are working to save remaining victims.
After midnight, two more persons were rescued from the rubble and taken to the hospital. Officials reported these individuals remain in stable condition as the search for remaining victims continues.
