Uganda: Police Identify Suspect in Death of Afrigo Band Icon Moses Matovu
Vincent Nsamba was apprehended after a joint manhunt as detectives and forensic teams investigate the fatal assault on veteran musician Moses Matovu.
- Kampala Metropolitan Police arrested 41-year-old Vincent Nsamba on Thursday evening in Wakiso District as the primary suspect in the murder of veteran Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu.
- Preliminary investigations indicate the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 AM on Thursday outside a residence in Kibuli, Makindye Division, when Matovu and a woman named Rose were allegedly confronted by Nsamba, her reported former partner.
- A violent physical altercation ensued, resulting in severe injuries to Matovu. A Good Samaritan rushed him to Kibuli Hospital on a motorcycle, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
- Police previously took Rose into custody to assist with investigations and tracking the suspect. "Our task team worked tirelessly to trace and apprehend the suspect who had fled the scene," Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said.
- Forensic teams are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation. "The exact circumstances surrounding the confrontation, however, are yet to be fully established," Kawala added, as police reiterated commitment to justice for Matovu's family.
