Spanish lawmaker Isabel Serra, Portuguese Catarina Martins and Jussi Saramo from Finland were detained and subsequently expelled from El Aaiún, the main city of Western Sahara, where they were to carry out a human rights observation mission.

Finnish MEP Jussi Saramo was denied entry to Western Sahara and forcibly deported back to Spain by Moroccan authorities. No reason was given for the decision. Saramo was travelling with Spanish MEP Isa Serra and Portuguese MEP Catarina Martins to assess the human rights situation in the occupied territory.
