The prosecutor's office in Senegal, a country on the west coast of Africa, announced last Friday that 71 alleged homosexuals had been arrested and charged. During the investigation, charges against 28 men were dropped. In March, the Senegalese National Assembly passed a law doubling the maximum penalty for homosexual acts. Months after passing a law upping the penalties for homosexual relations, Senegal is intensifying its crackdown on same-sex relations. On Friday, the public prosecutor’s office said 71 men have been arrested and charged with “unnatural acts.”
Among them is a French national arrested in February in Dakar. The other 71 accused remain accused for "association of criminals" and "acts against nature".
