Magnetic Chess Games Recalled for Choking Risk
The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that swallowed magnets can cause severe intestinal injuries, with 151,600 games recalled nationwide since 2018.
- On Thursday, March 12, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Stoney Games, LLC of Bexley, Ohio, recalled 151,600 Kluster Fun Tabletop Magnet Chess Gameswith due to an ingestion hazard to children.
- The CPSC explained that loose high-powered magnets inside the games can attract each other if swallowed, potentially causing punctures, "twisting, and/or a blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death."
- Sold between October 2018 and September 2025, the sets feature 24 magnets, an instruction manual, and a black storage pouch labeled "Kluster," retailing for $15 to $20 at independent shops, Amazon, and Etsy.
- Consumers should immediately stop using the games and take them away from children. Owners must contact Stoney Games for disposal instructions and replacement magnets.
- Although the recall addresses a potential severe injury risk, no reports of injuries connected to the product have surfaced to date. The Consumer Product Safety Commission provided this information via recall letter.
