- On July 12, three cyclists in the Okanagan Granfondo near Penticton were hit by a vehicle, resulting in one death and two serious injuries.
- The collision occurred despite extensive safety and traffic plans, including road closures starting at 5:30 a.m., as organizers prepared for a high-participation event.
- Race director Dave Michael said the event takes significant preparation with extra signage and motorcyclist escorts added, and city officials reviewed and enhanced safety measures after the crash.
