Quesnel Man Gets 57 More Days for Killing Mother’s Pet Goats
The judge also imposed 18 months of probation and a five-year ban on owning or caring for animals.
- On May 19, Quesnel Provincial Court sentenced 35-year-old Jessie James Falkenham to an additional 57 days in jail for killing his mother's pet goats, following his guilty plea to the April 25 offence in Kersley.
- After Falkenham's mother requested a wellness check, Quesnel RCMP discovered the burned remains of two pet goats; a witness reported that Falkenham claimed the animals were "descendants of the devil."
- In court, Falkenham denied acting on voices, stating, "I'm not a crazy person or anything like that," while his mother provided a victim impact statement describing how she cared for the goats since they were two weeks old.
- Judge Scott Mulder sentenced Falkenham to 90 days in jail with 33 days' credit for time served, and ordered 18 months of probation plus a five-year ban on owning or residing with animals.
- Mulder cited a lack of insight into the "bizarre and horrible act," noting he lacked authority to mandate psychiatric treatment and instead focused his ruling on deterrence and denunciation.
