Monty Don Breaks Rule on Gardeners' World Sparking BBC to Issue 'Reminder'
The broadcaster said it has spoken to the presenter after he appeared in the brand’s £300 jacket while promoting a Barbour campaign.
The BBC reminded Horticulturalist Monty Don of editorial guidelines after he wore a £300 Barbour jacket on Gardeners World while simultaneously promoting the brand in an advertising campaign.
BBC guidelines on conflicts of interest explicitly prohibit presenters from appearing on-air wearing clothing or products they are contracted to promote or endorse, a spokeswoman said.
The jacket features in Barbour's "Way of Life" campaign, which invites supporters to "shop the look" worn by Don, whom Barbour calls "Britain's most legendary gardener."
In 2024, Gary Lineker faced similar reminders after wearing his own fashion range during England's Euros coverage; Ski Sunday hosts previously received cautions over brand promotions.
Don has previously revealed the "full on" process behind Gardeners World, emphasizing the extensive preparation and editing required to maintain the program's tranquil image.
