Montreal Transit Strike to Disrupt Metro, Bus Service During Election Day

  • On Saturday, Nov. 1, Montreal's Société de transport de Montréal will have no bus or metro service, and between Oct. 31 and Nov. 28, transit runs only during rush hours and late nights.
  • The maintenance workers' union has scheduled a four-week walkout starting Oct. 31, involving roughly 2,400 members, while the union representing about 4,500 bus and metro drivers voted to strike on Nov. 1, 15 and 16.
  • The STM says some school trips will be canceled and urges parents to check its school service page, while Montreal paratransit service for people with disabilities will operate as usual throughout November.
  • A mid-October survey found close to 46 per cent of Montreal SMEs report losses from strikes since June 2025, while the regional transit body estimates roughly $9 million lost this year.
  • A mediator is due to join talks soon between the unions and the Société de transport de Montréal, with only a deal before the 10 p.m. deadline able to stop the strike and the STM possibly asking the province to appoint an arbitrator.
