- On November 24, 2025, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens are investigating the illegal shooting of a black bear cub on U.S. Forest Service land west of Stevensville in the Bitterroot Valley.
- Montana regulations state it is unlawful to harvest black bear cubs or female black bears with cubs under Montana hunting/wildlife regulations.
- On Sunday, Nov. 23, investigators found a young-of-the-year black bear cub near Silverthorn Creek off St. Mary Peak Road, believed killed between Nov. 20 and Nov. 22, 2025.
