Following a dispute with the Likud, Shas and Degel Hatorah parties agree that the Basic Law on Torah Study will include only the provision stating that Torah study is a fundamental value in Jewish Heritage.
Despite the opposition of Shas and Degel Hatorah to deleting the problematic section in the Basic Law: Torah Study, coalition chairman Ofir Katz reached an agreement with the factions that the law would include a section that eliminates the comparison, and states that Torah study is a "fundamental value in the heritage of the Jewish people." Thus, the bill was approved in the second and third readings.
