Police Release Photo of Woman Brutally Murdered by Dexter-Obsessed Student
- On Tuesday, Benjamin Day, 20, pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court to the murder of 24-year-old Maria Sacaenu, changing his plea during the trial after initially denying the charge.
- Inspired by the character Dexter, Day lured Sacaenu to a rented room in Tividale in December 2025 and stabbed her 78 times; Detective Inspector Matt Marston said it was meticulous and pre-planned.
- Inside the rented Oldbury Airbnb, the killer lined walls and floors with plastic sheeting to create a "kill room," while officers recovered a canvas knife roll, staple gun, and duct tape at the scene.
- Following the attack, Day flagged down police and falsely claimed a fox injured his hand; officers arrested him at Russells Hall Hospital after discovering his fabricated story.
- Awaiting sentencing on December 4, Day was 19 years old and studying forensic science at the time of the offense, according to the Major Crime Team's investigation.
