American 'assassin' Aimee Betro travelled to UK to carry out shooting, court hears
BIRMINGHAM, UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 21 – Aimee Betro, disguised in a niqab, attempted to kill Sikander Ali in a revenge attack linked to a 2018 dispute, but her gun jammed, police said.
- On September 7, 2019, Aimee Betro, disguised in a niqab and burka, attempted to shoot Sikander Ali outside his Birmingham home, but her gun jammed, court hears.
- Prosecutor Tom Walkling KC said Betro conspired with Mohammed Aslam and Mohammed Nabil Nazir, motivated by revenge after a July 2018 dispute at Noreens Saher Boutique.
- After gun jam, Sikander Ali escaped by reversing his SUV and damaging the Mercedes, a black glove with Betro's DNA was found inside, and threats were sent from a burner phone.
- She then fled the UK by flying out from Manchester on September 9, and denies conspiracy to murder and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
- Prosecutor Tom Walkling KC said, `This is a case about three incidents` including attempted shooting, window attack, and ammo import, with Betro denying conspiracy and firearm charges.
