The appeal trial of former MoDem leaders and MEPs opens on Wednesday 9 September for four weeks before the Paris Court of Appeal. François Bayrou will be the main accused, after his release in first instance.
Thirteen defendants whose former Prime Minister François Bayrou, released at first instance, appeared in Paris until 2 October for embezzlement of public funds, complicity or concealment.
Relaxed in 2024, the former Prime Minister appeared for almost a month at the Paris Court of Appeal alongside ten other defendants for embezzlement of public funds.
The former Prime Minister is charged with complicity in the misappropriation of public funds and is suspected of having used European funds between 2005 and 2017 to pay parliamentary assistants who actually worked for the UDF, then the MoDem. He is due to appear from Wednesday before the Paris Court of Appeal, after having been released in 2024.
