Tampa Bay Prospect Nathan Flewelling Homers, MVP in AL’s 6-1 Win over NL in All-Star Futures Game
Nathan Flewelling hit a 365-foot two-run homer as the American League Futures pulled away with two insurance runs in the seventh.
On Sunday at Citizens Bank Park, the American League Futures team defeated the National League 6-1, with Tampa Bay Rays prospect Nathan Flewelling earning MVP honors after launching a 365-foot, two-run home run.
Managed by 80-year-old Larry Bowa, the American League squad needed only five hits to secure victory while former Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino led the National League team in the exhibition.
Athletics shortstop Leo De Vries sparked the offense with a leadoff single and two stolen bases, while Phillies prospect Gage Wood started for the National League, throwing 11 pitches in his one inning.
Data shows 86.8% of past Futures Games players have reached the major leagues, while 259 total players have been selected to compete in at least one major league All-Star Game.
The exhibition showcases upcoming talent during All-Star Week, which continues with the MLB x All-Star 3-on-3 game scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
