SOUTH AFRICA, JUL 22 – The MK Party blames President Ramaphosa for record-high unemployment, corruption, and law enforcement failures, demanding a parliamentary vote within two weeks to restore public trust.
- On Tuesday, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party submitted a motion of no confidence in President Cyril Ramaphosa, requesting a special sitting within two weeks, Dr John Hlophe said.
- Persistent socioeconomic challenges such as record-high unemployment, deteriorating police services, including failure to ensure public safety, and allegations of law enforcement interference, Dr John Hlophe outlined these failures.
- Amid allegations of criminal ties and interference, the MK Party filed a motion over Ramaphosa’s failure to fire Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who remains on paid leave, and placed Mchunu on special leave pending a judicial commission of inquiry.
- Facing resistance from the DA, MK Party filed a no-confidence motion against Ramaphosa, while public protests last week demanded his resignation.
- Following the motion, MK Party has vowed not to support the Appropriation Bill when it is tabled on Wednesday, and Ramaphosa will file court papers opposing the application on Wednesday.
