Mizzou women's basketball, driven by youth, set to begin second season under Harper
Harper added eight transfers and a strong freshman class as Missouri tries to rebound from a 17-17 debut season and reach the NCAA Tournament.
On Monday, Missouri head coach Kellie Harper previewed her team's 2026-27 season, detailing a major roster overhaul for her second year. The program retained only four players from the 2025-26 squad, integrating eight transfers and five freshmen into the 13-player lineup.
Missouri finished 17-17 in Harper's debut season with a 4-12 Southeastern Conference record, prompting an offseason strategy focused on athleticism, height, and depth. Harper said the new roster was designed to address gaps and bring a winning mentality to compete in the SEC.
Returning centerpiece Grace Slaughter leads a core group alongside wing Abbey Schreacke and guard Averi Kroenke, who returns after missing last season with an ACL injury. New recruits include 6-foot-4 forward Khloe Ford and combo guard Jada Maples from Arkansas.
Players emphasized a new culture of "competitiveness" during practices, with freshman Khloe Ford describing intense, physical drills. Harper noted the team's shared goal, saying "this is a team that wants to attack adversity" and remains united in winning.
With the NCAA Tournament as the primary goal, Slaughter said the team aims to build on last year's Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament appearance. The Tigers open with an exhibition against Lincoln University on Thursday, October 29, before facing Howard on November 2.
