Mizzou, Saint Louis in Talks to Revive the in-State Basketball Rivalry
The matchup would renew the in-state rivalry for the first time since 2001-02 and help Missouri strengthen a nonconference schedule built for tournament positioning.
Missouri Tigers and Saint Louis University are finalizing a neutral-site basketball game at the Enterprise Center on Nov. 6, according to a report from Jon Rothstein.
The rivalry, dormant since Dec. 3, 2001, will return as Missouri leads the series against its in-state foes at 21-19.
Head coach Dennis Gates plans to strengthen the Tigers' non-conference schedule as the NCAA Tournament expands to 76 teams. "When you look at scheduling, you have to mesh it with where the selection committee is," Gates said.
Led by coach Josh Schertz, the Billikens finished 29-6, while Missouri finished 20-13, as CBS Sports Jon Rothstein projects both as top teams entering next season.
Missouri's 2026-27 slate includes neutral-site games against Kansas at the T-Mobile Center, Illinois at the Enterprise Center, and reportedly Marquette at the United Center in Chicago.
