There will be no reparations as a result of the study into the colonial role played by the Orange family, Prime Minister Rob Jetten has said in his weekly press conference. The prime minister said a multi-year program has been underway since the government issued its apology for the Netherlands’ history of slavery.
Mitchell Esajas, co-founder of The Black Archives and New Urban Collective, is returning the royal honor he received in 2023. He is doing so in response to the research into the role of the House of Orange-Nassau in the colonial past. Esajas believes King Willem-Alexander's statement following the presentation of the research was not strong enough.
