Mitch McConnell Released From Hospital More than a Week After Experiencing "Flu-Like Symptoms"
Sen. Mitch McConnell, 83, was hospitalized for eight days with flu-like symptoms and will work from home this week on doctors' advice, missing recent Senate votes.
- McConnell's spokesman said, `Senator McConnell was discharged from the hospital yesterday and is grateful for the outstanding care he received.`
- He checked himself into a hospital the night of Feb. 2 after earlier flu-like symptoms, seeking evaluation out of an `abundance of caution` with a positive prognosis, officials said.
- He spent an eight-day stay for flu-like symptoms, missed two votes in the U.S. Senate, and stayed in contact with Senate Republican leader John Thune, R-S.D.
- Last year McConnell said he would not run again, prompting a competitive primary with Representative Andy Barr, Daniel Cameron, and Nate Morris campaigning for the GOP nomination.
- At 83, McConnell is the longest-serving Senate party leader and has faced recent health issues including falls, a 2023 concussion, and past freezing episodes.
