5-Year-Old Girl, Parents Killed in Crash Involving 2 Semitrucks
State troopers are investigating the collision after the crash shut down part of I-59 for hours and left three other children injured.
- On Tuesday, a semi-truck crash in a construction zone on I-59 in Trussville, Alabama, killed Dquarious Marqua Butler, his wife Dominque Mariona Butler, and their 5-year-old daughter, Nailani Butler, from Liberty, Mississippi.
- Butler was driving the commercial truck with his wife and four children as passengers when it collided with another semi around 7:30 a.m. in an ALDOT construction zone.
- Three other children were injured and transported to Children's of Alabama. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the crash.
- Truck driver Derek Johnson said, "That's one of the most dangerous jobs," noting risks drivers face daily. Trussville resident Lafeedra Lee echoed safety concerns in the community.
- According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, 11,009 out of 260,401 crashes reported in Alabama in 2024 involved trucks; 21% of work zone crashes resulted in injury or death.
