Retd Army Officer, 2 Others Detained in Secunderabad Cantonment Arms Theft Case
Police detained a former officer as investigators search for 12 missing firearms and more than 1,800 rounds of ammunition, officials said.
- Malkajgiri Police detained a former military officer in connection with the theft of 12 firearms and more than 1,800 rounds of ammunition from the 20 Madras Regiment premises in Bolarum, Secunderabad Cantonment, Telangana.
- Personnel discovered the theft on August 31 when they found broken locks and storage boxes at the Kote and Battalion Magazine, after weapons were last accounted for at around 6 p.m. on August 30.
- Valued at about 15 lakh, the missing cache included four AK-203 assault rifles, an INSAS 1B1 rifle, six 9 mm Auto 1A pistols, a civilian 6.35-bore pistol, a passive night-vision binocular, and 21 magazines.
- A multi-agency investigation involving the Army, Military Intelligence, Telangana police, and the National Investigation Agency is underway; the detained officer reportedly named two to three additional suspects during questioning.
- Recovery of the stolen arms remains unconfirmed as Malkajgiri Police continue their investigation and authorities have yet to verify further details or confirm whether the missing ammunition and weapons have been secured.
